Extended Stillness – Mixed Media Wildlife Art Print
Stillness does not end where the subject leaves the frame.
Extended Stillness turns toward the open water, allowing the landscape itself to become the story. A quiet lake stretches beneath a softly illuminated sky, surrounded by layers of indigo, copper, warm ivory and muted blue. Painterly textures move through the composition, blurring the boundary between photography and abstraction while leaving the water open and contemplative.
Created as a companion to Beyond Stillness, this piece carries the visual journey farther across the lake. There is no central subject demanding attention. Instead, reflection, atmosphere, color and distance invite the eye to wander.
The result is a peaceful mixed-media landscape that feels expansive without being empty—a study of what remains when we simply allow a quiet place to be.
The Story Behind the Art
Extended Stillness grew from the same artistic exploration that created Beyond Stillness, which reimagined an original Framed Greetings wildlife photograph captured at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge in Sherman, Texas.
While Beyond Stillness keeps the Little Blue Heron as its visual anchor, Extended Stillness looks beyond it.
The bird and boat disappear. The lake continues.
Layers of photographic landscape, painterly texture and abstract color transform the view into an interpretation of water, light and atmosphere. Deep blues provide structure while copper and warm earth tones move through the composition like reflected light.
Together, the two works create a conversation between subject and surroundings. Separately, Extended Stillness becomes something quieter: an invitation to look across the water without needing to find anything there.
Design Notes
The mixed-media composition draws from the visual language established in Beyond Stillness while intentionally reversing the weight of its painterly elements. Indigo, slate blue, copper, terracotta and warm ivory frame the lake through layered brushwork and distressed texture.
The open center preserves a sense of distance and calm, allowing the natural landscape to remain visible beneath the more expressive mixed-media treatment.
When displayed beside Beyond Stillness, the opposing placement of these textured elements creates balance across the pair, while the shared water, horizon and palette establish continuity between the two works.

Collect the Pair
Extended Stillness was designed to stand independently, but its full visual relationship is revealed when displayed alongside Beyond Stillness.
Beyond Stillness gives the landscape a subject.
Extended Stillness gives the landscape room to continue.
Displayed in matching frames, the two 18 × 24 works form a complementary pair connected through landscape, color and atmosphere without becoming a conventional matching set.
